The Beast?

No one is currently saying Barack Obama is the Beast, as depicted in the book of Revelation. No one in the GOP is making that claim, and certainly none of the Democrats are either.

But how conceivable is it?

One artist in New York has already completed a giant acrylic depicting Obama as a glorified Jesus. How many people would be ready to receive Barack Obama as the supreme antichrist if he indeed went down that path?

And it is a question of 'how many' and not a question of 'how deeply'. The beast will rise on the hysteria of 'The Public' and its approval (a double-minded approval, just like the journalists who are always ready to tear down their heroes). Unlike the real Messiah, he will not have the genuine support of an elderly grandma or a young child -nor will he seek out such people as his constituents.

Barack Obama has claimed to be a Christian, it is true, a different kind of Christian. During the Democratic primaries of 2008 he claimed to be a sinner "in the Christian sense", suggesting that he has never really been evil (like the rest of those poor, penitents) but evil in a purely doctrinal, abstract way.

Although he chose a minister to be his mentor -and to title of one of his books after one of his sermons- his minister seems to be more concerned with political affairs and race relations than presenting human beings with the Good News of finding reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ.

Barack Obama has made extremely vigorous efforts to gain the support of those who claim to be religious, even courting the evangelicals in his association with Rick Warren (and to some extent with Tony Dungy). During the primaries he attacked the Democrats (!) for blowing off religious voters. And he hasn't tried to end President Bush's faith-based initiatives (which about 80% of Americans have approved of).

On the other hand, as president, Barack Obama has made moves against the churches of America and their efforts toward the poor by de-incentivizing charitable donations.

He also issued an executive order allowing tax dollars to go toward oversea abortions (a move which has justified my vote against him all by itself as far as I'm concerned). He has also promised to give extensive, extensive abortion rights as soon the bill arrives on his desk.

I find it worth noting that his constituents are waiting for a messianic leader who will unify the world behind a global currency, a global government, a global culture, and a global "society". The moon will be in its 'seventh house' and Jupiter will align with Mars, etc. These are the things his advocates try to find in his foreign trips, and the president has given them many assurances.

Speaking of Obama's constituents, 86% of Jews voted for Obama. This assures me (to some extent) that Obama has better standing with Israel than other politicians like Jimmy Carter who takes the side of Hamas everytime (a terrorist organization), Jesse Jackson, and Pat Buchanan. His chief of staff is also very Jewish.

On the other hand there is something about Obama that reminds me of everything the Jews in Jesus' day wanted to see in a Messiah: good looks, pseudo-empathy, and a broad swath of popularity. These are things that Christ never really had, so it is easy to juxtapose Obama with Christ in their relation to the Jews. Also Obama has opposed Israel's best leader in the last fifty years: Netandyahu.

In summary I would say that if Barack Obama is the Beast, it is not immediately obvious at this point. On the other hand, that's exactly how I would profile the Beast early in his career. Remember that few people recognized early in the ministry of Jesus that he was the Messiah, and during the early part of his ministry Jesus made many attempts at concealing his role in the universe because he wanted to show a much truer, subtle part of himself.

Are you the beast Matt? It isn't immediately obvious, and certainly there are elements in your personality and life that would make people believe that you aren't the beast, but that is exactly how I would characterise the early stages of the beast's career.

Or the beast could probably be (as I personally believe) Nero?

Matt,

Until I see the anti-christ place himself in the temple, I won't know for sure who he is. Even if he is, Jesus lives in me and I refuse to be afraid of him. That means that each and every time he violates our Constitution, I take note and hope and pray he will be held accountable before our country is destroyed.

I believe we are being moved toward globalism in much the same way that we were moved away from strong local government to Federalism, by manipulation of politicians on the left and the right. I wish I could find a team to believe in but I can't anymore. I am a Conservative and I will try to vote for persons who are of like mindset.

Don't forget the during his most formative years, Obama was raised in Indonesia by his Muslim father and there is a lot of evidence that points to his being educated in a Muslim school rather than the Catholic one that he claims. I think his bowing to the Saudis was a natural response from his upbringing. Also, remember that Farakan is among those who think he could be the Messiah along with New Agers who say he may be "The One". The only other person that such things were said about was Hitler. Obama having worshipers was enough for me to vote against him.

If he begins to persecute and kill God's people, he will be an anti-christ but I don't know for sure if he is the last. However, he does seem to have the potential to be lots of scary things and that potential lies in the way so many respond to him, as if he can do no wrong when he lies constantly and breaks a new law every week. That's the part I don't understand because when I look at him I see an extremely narcissistic individual who seems to have no love for America or the American people. He seems to hate our system and our way of life. For me he has become the first anti-America president. I think he is enacting 'social justice' on America to punish us for our excess. That is what I call him now, The Punisher.

I really understand now how a Hitler can take over a country. It is because so few people don't want to see it taking place that such an individual is able to subvert laws and grab for power in broad daylight with only minor repercussions.

I've gotten off the path but basically, he's scary enough I'm not going to give him an extra edge to intimidate the people by calling him ant-christ. Now, fascsist, I'll go aways with that...

Hi Tim,

If you describe here the parallels you see between me and the Beast, I promise not to delete your comments. Your warnings will be heard (even if they are not believed). A convincing parallel could frighten me into living a more pure life!

My wife thinks Nero was the Beast also. I suppose it's possible, but when did Nero enter the temple and receive worship from the people there? And what account is there of the miracles he performed? It seems like a stretch to me, but it is definitely one of those interpretations that I could see being right.

Hi Lady Lavender,

You did a good job of listing a lot of other indicators I failed to think of. When the 2008 primaries were just starting I thought to myself that Obama and Huckabee stand the biggest chance of being the man described in the Book of Revelation. In Obama's case (to give Tim some credit) a lot of my intuition is based on the way he is received by his constituents, but a lot of it is also based on his own style.

Oh, I forgot his/Geithner's thing about the global currency too.

Hi Matt,

In case I didn't come across sarcastic enough in my last comment, it was just a response to the last paragraph of your post where you said that it isn't immediately obvious that Obama is the beast, but that is how the beast would start his career (not being immediately obvious). You can accuse anyone of being the beast with that logic hehe.

Regarding Nero, it stems from a reading of revelations that views it as a commentary of recent events (expressed in apocalyptic language) and not a prophetic vision of events yet to come. Seen in such a way, Nero is the only likely candidate as he was reported by Tacitus to have brutally persecuted Christians following the great fire in Rome. Admittedly i'm not as well-versed about it as i'd like to be. Actually you just encouraged me to brush up on the various interpretations of Revelations!

Timothy,

I would agree with you that Nero was an anti-christ but not the final one. Human beings have certain behaviors programed into them in regards to government that we repeat over and over. We start small but always end in building a government that encompasses the known world at that time. Our globalism really isn't anything new there are just more of us and the known world is much larger than when the last empire was in power. I believe the last such empire will be the one that swallows the entire globe and the final anti-christ will rule over it. That will be the final culmination of man's rule over man and finally, we will be ready for something better, God's rule over each individual, the Kingdom of Conscious or the Kingdom of Heaven.

Hi Tim,

Sorry for the late response. I caught your sarcastic tone. It is a bit of punching below the belt to say, "I have no obvious evidence Obama is the Beast", but it is also something of a compliment as well. It sort of depends on how you look at it.

LL,

You're right about there being more than one antichrist, as John describes them. As best I can tell reading Revelations there is only one Beast.
