Serve Ameria Act, Do we really need an Act?

About the Serve America Act.

We are in a time of crisis. Americans are fighting to keep their jobs, stay in their homes, and provide for their families. States and communities are struggling to restore economic stability and build toward a better future.The “Serve America Act,” a bipartisan bill (S. 277) authored by Senators Kennedy (D-MA) and Hatch (R-UT) and supported by President Obama, will invest in community and national service at a time when citizen volunteers and service organizations are more crucial than ever.

Here are some of the things the Serve America Act will do:

  • Create targeted corps to address specific problems (like the high school dropout crisis) and increase full and part-time national service opportunities from 75,000 to 250,000
  • Invest in and grow proven and innovative service solutions
    Expand community service opportunities for Americans of all ages (from teens to retiring Boomers)
  • Improve and expand international service opportunities that take American know-how to troubled regions and help better connect America to the world

    (For a version of this petition which includes more detailed information about the Serve America Act click here)

    During these tough economic times, citizen service is a cost-effective way to unite Americans in common cause to solve problems. That’s why President Obama has called for passage of the Serve America Act, and leading Senators from both parties have signed on as co-sponsors. ( I added the Bold)

Do people really read these so called Acts? I 'heard' about it off of a Tweet by Ashton Kutcher. I know, embarrassing, I follow his tweets, but put that little information aside, celebrities love to promote such drivel. Kutcher is promoting this Act on Twitter. LOOKOUT.

READ THE ACT. It is drivel. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. It has no teeth. What are they doing exactly? How is all of this going to be accomplished people? WITH TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In addition, AMERICANS do most of the above stuff volunteering but if we raise taxes to let the GOVERNMENT handle it and they will do a bang up job I am sure then charities are going to hurt big time. AMERICANS won't give to them or volunteer. They will figure Uncle Sam has it covered. Plus, with less money coming into their households they really won't be able to give to their charities.

Oh, my fellow AMERICANS read the darn thing and see it for what it is. PR and setup for increase in taxes. It all sounds sooooo nice. Here is what they are saying, "See, we are not going to just do bailouts we are going to promote education, community service, and international service to uplift the United States.

"Wow, that sounds awesome!!!

Hello, Americans do this daily. We have been doing this for generations. We have many government programs already doing many of the above mentioned. Here is a thought, fix the programs we already have, dah! Why add more to the mess?

Do the math. If You add Government programs THEN Someone has to pay for it. That would be us, you know, the citizens of the Government.

Get your checkbooks out for this great ACT that you all are signing up for so eagerly. C'mon, the American people can't be this gullible. Right?

Do the volunteers have to wear brown shirts???

All this beuracracy is also a grab for power during a time when jobs are scarce. I've read people online saying they've applied for jobs with the census and if they don't support ACORN and are Dems they are turned away. Obama is in the process of creating massive beuracracy and break-neck speed. Couple that with manipulation of the census and we could be in real trouble getting conservatives in office in 2012. We all really need to put effort in getting as many people in office, any office in 2010 as possible.

When a person volunteers to serve their neighbor it is a beautiful thing. What do you call it when the government passes laws to push people into volunteers?

How about 'taking credit for someone else's work'?

Kind of sound like what some White racist junkie put out and I don't mean Rush.None of Cultmaster's Glenn's followers disagree with him at all.

Here are The Nine Principles and 12 Values:

The Nine Principles

1. America is good.(Was it good when JFK,RFK, and MLK were murdered ?)
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.Greta van Susstern's church believes in abortion,Glenn's wears "magical underware".)
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.( Rush Limbaugh doctor shopping)
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.(You didn't say that when Raygun and King George the Turd ran the country.)
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.(Larry Craig )
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.(Getting rid of Equal Right a racist dream)
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.(Let the poor starve.Bernie Madoff must have wrote that .)
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.( One exception,a Black President ).
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.( Only when a Democrat is in ofice )

The 12 Values

* Honesty
* Reverence
* Hope
* Thrift
* Humility
* Charity
* Sincerity
* Moderation
* Hard Work
* Courage
* Personal Responsibility
* Gratitude

Lucy,

Okay. I'm used to this stuff anyway. It is the price we pay for saying what we really think!
