Obama is Cooked

I did not think this was going to happen.
Ever.
Certainly not in mid-March 2009!
The press has turned against Obama.
Obama has come out attacking AIG for giving bonuses to its executives.
This is nothing new for a liberal like Obama, but the issue is that the people attacking AIG over this explicitly stipulated in the bailout package THEY wrote that the executives would get these bonuses.
There are a large number of voices confirming this. [1](AP) [2](politico) [3](G&M) etc, etc. I'm not even posting the links to the two WashPo articles and the NRO article.
Left wing press, right wing press, everyone is on Obama for this. Chris Dodd is even more guilty, but they are both *major* liars.
In case you missed it, they've been attacking AIG over these bonuses (Chris Dodd says he even *warned* everyone about it) when they were the ones that made it happen!

Obama has dropped in three separate polls. These were polls taken from before this cigar exploded in his face (as G&M put it). He is in deep trouble.
All president's approval ratings start high and decline over one or two terms, but Obama is getting dropped like hot bricks.

It sounds like the treasury department did know, or should have known, what AIG was intending on doing. You realise though that Obama is being criticised for not being 'liberal' enough by not stopping AIG from doing this from the beginning. His rhetoric does not entirely reflect his actions; a common criticism from the left towards Democratic presidents.
Looking forward though, I hope he does block these bonuses from being paid with all of you guy's tax money, and that he is somehow able to stop the enormous bonuses all of the top people in the financial industry are receiving. It's a very small part to a very large problem.
Hi Tim,
Yeah, I think some people are angry it wasn't liberal enough. Some people are like, "Wow, that was hypocritical." A lot of democrats are reacting on both ways. To me, it just seems hypocritical.
And I don't think you should be allowed to tell people how to spend their money. The lesson is to not give government money to companies unless the government is paying for something.
The way I understand it is that AIG was being used as a place to 'launder' if you will, failed securities from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Barney Frank just kept pumping them into AIG and the money flowed out to the tune of billions of dollars with more than half flowing into European Banks. (Hey, guys, we bailed out Europe too!)
All that happened today was smoke and mirrors trying to keep the attention on a few bonuses (cheap by comparison)and not on the really big rip off of the American people not by CEO but by those who vow to uphold the Constitution and represent us in D.C.
I haven't heard of a single Senator or Congressman that did not make money off of Fannie and Freddie. I think they should give it all back!
Oh...I almost forgot, Fannie and Freddie voted to give bonuses today of around $500,000. Do you think that's why Barney wants to cap ALL bonuses at $500,000?
Yikes, LL!
So who read about congress taxing all bonuses for government-supported financial people earning over 250,000 at 90%? I have to admit it put a smile on my face.
There's a much better explanation of this than mine on THE912PROJECT.COM.
The tax was unconstitutional and assinine since the contract was written by the government and 'slipped' into the stimulus bill. On the other hand, if Congress is able to void buisiness contracts then we will have become completely socialist. If I wanted that, I'd move to Australia.
Why are you so involved in what goes on in our government, Timothy?
It's just a matter of time before they come after us.
So much for "life liberty and the pursuit of property" ...
Joy,
Australia is completely socialist? What? I'm really confused.
Anyway, I hope you meant that question in the "oh so how did you become to be interested in Politics?" and not the "why don't you just mind your own business and keep your beak out of our own affairs" way, and if it's the former I pre-emptively apologise. I'm interested in US politics because it affects the world more than Australian politics does, and it's less dry. On the one hand I despise alot of its foreign policy, but on the other I also believe America has the potential to solve alot of problems and alleviate suffering. One day I hope to see DC and all of the monuments and so forth; maybe listen in on some congress/senate stuff (does anyone know if that kind of thing is possible?)
You hate the President because he's Black. Can't say the N-word anymore so you call him a Communist and a Socialist.
This is America where a college drop out can call a Doctor of Jurisprudence "A magic Negro".Where FOX can infiltrate ACORN with plants and try to rig votes like Dubya did in the other two elections.
Timothy,
No, I didn't mean mind your business. I'm just overwhelmed by our own problems so I always scratch my head a little when people from other countries seem so involved. As of now, it is possible to visit Congress I'm not sure how open it is since the terror attacks.
At this point, I think your country is more socialist than mine. I certainly don't know as much about your country as I do my own but I know socialized democracies are the trend and there are far more countries of that bent than like America. I really want America to stay America.
Kid, there are no racists here. It is the content of Obama's character that bothers me. I also call him a socialist and probable communist because of his background, because he sees government as the answer to all problems, and his policies from those passed in his stimulus bill to those proposed in his huge budget. He also loves to spend other people's money, at a rate I've never witnessed before, and that is a true sign of a socialist. When he fulfills his desire to take money from the rich and give it to the poor while also controling all production and distribution in the country, he will graduate to communist. I hope the brakes are put on him long before it gets to that point.
Joy,
I underestimated you. I guess it might be either just me, or people my age, or whatever, but i'm as interested in the problems and potential of other countries as I am my own. For example, the recent Australian bushfires, which killed almost 200 people, upset me as much as the mumbai terrorist attacks. I just don't see the point in caring about things more or less based on their geographical proximity to myself. Of course, since Australian PMs enact legislation that affects me directly for better or worse ill always keep a close eye on what they are doing.
Australia has a history of being more "egalitarian" than America, but lately I can't see that much of a difference. Unions are more popular here, but since the early 80s our economy has been thoroughly liberalised (which has its pros and cons) and the Liberal government, who was voted out a couple of years ago, tried to push through labour legislation that would have made even American republicans blush. We also have a dual public/private health care system, which is different from America. All in all I think we are mostly pretty similar to America/UK, but with a couple of significant differences.
Well, I'm a lot older, my husband and I have a family business to run, and we have grandchildren to keep up with. There is only so many hours in the day and I've much less energy to utilize them than I used to.
The brush fires touched me too because I grew up in what I call 'the NM outback' and I know what it is like to face natural disaster. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time reading about Autrailia but I just don't know much about the government. I do know about the UK and I don't think we are very simular at all.
