Liberal Hypocrisy

Hypocrites are everywhere, in every class, in every political party. If you want to consider the ultimate meaning of this, check out meredevotion.com.

There is an ethical distinction between liberal hypocrisy and conservative hypocrisy.

Conservative hypocrites appeal to living a lawful life. Their hypocrisy is manifest as soon as they cease to actually live their principles. This kind of hypocrisy (as far as I'm concerned) does nothing to invalidate the principles of other conservatives.

Liberal hypocrisy, on the other hand, is a completely different category.

Hypocrisy comes from the Greek word for acting, and all liberals are actors. An actor is a person who says, 'Okay, stick to the script because I'm not really respresenting myself'. Liberals do not present us with their own views.

Liberals often point out the burdens of the poor. They call themselves 'philanthropists' and do everything to be seen as generous by others, while they actually give the smallest amount to charities.

Check out my earlier post on the book Who Really Cares. Conservatives give 30% more to charities than liberals do. When Joe Biden's tax returns came out during the 2008 election it became clear that the amount liberals give is actually pretty close to zero.

But the liberals (who do not actually care enough about the poor to give to them) still see themselves as the lions of the poor, their defenders, because they are 'willing' to pass legislation to take away other people's money and give it to the poor.

Most democrat senators are rich, lazy, and fat. Ted Kennedy is the epitomy of liberal hypocrisy. He's lived his whole life in a mansion on the east coast where he lives with the sins of his past: which look to me like adultery, murder, and a lawyerly cover-up.

Meanwhile people like John McCain are attacked for owning seven houses (which are all accomodated basically like an ordinary person's house) while the rich, hypocrite liberals live on their estates (like John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and the house Obama bought with Rezko's help).

Liberals care about the poor! Oh yes they do! Just not enough to actually give their own money to help them.

Liberal hypocrites are the ones who want to take all the laws and ideals away. They want to make the unethical things legal (marijuana, prostitution, coercion into labor unions, etc).

Their attitude is one of "we're all in this together", so there is no room for ethical distinctions. To liberal hypocrites the criminals are misunderstood. They are emotionally abused. They are the victims. The criminals shouldn't be punished, they should have people talk to them so that their opinions will count too.

If a liberal's car was actually hit by a drunk driver, they would call for the drunk driver to be locked away for life. And then if you said, 'Well, what about his feelings? What about the circumstances that pushed him toward this?' And they respond, 'Are you nuts?! I'm the victim!'

Instead of allowing the real victims the legal option to not press charges, they want to make laws so that no charges are passed at all -making the government generous at the expense of the victims.

Hypocrites!

This is the entire problem: when a person freely gives money to someone else in charity, they actually care about that person. The government doesn't care about anyone. It just follows it's own laws and rules like a wind up clock. The liberals think we can replace spiritual love with a wind up clock government that organizes everything and everyone -stripping their freedom to show genuine love- and then takes all the credit for their welfare.

Liberalism, unlike conservativism, is inherently hypocritical. Unlike conservatives who are at times unjust, liberalism is unjust per se. Liberalism is deceitful, the highest deceit of all, and it needs to be ended as soon as possible.

I think liberal politicians use the problems that people have to gain more power and control for themselves. Look at all the things that Obama wants to put into action. First their is the bribe of money to 'solve' the problem and then their is the government office to go with it that gains government permenent control over those who need that particular brand of 'help'. Also, all the workers needed to run the new office are also beholden to Obama for creating their job.

They seem worse than hypocrites to me. Decadent is what comes to my mind.

I have to say; liberal is such a stupid word. In American common usage it means someone left-wing, in Australia it usually refers to the conservative "Liberal Party", and in scholarship it refers to actual liberalism championed by John Locke and others. Such a confusing word.

Anyway, you mentioned that if a Conservative preaches about remaining faithful to your wife, and then proceeds to cheat on his wife, that the principle has not been watered down or muddied for the other upstanding conservatives. I really don't see any difference with that and the poor. Left-wing people can talk about giving to the poor and poverty and the necessity to help our fellow human beings that are in need, and then proceed to live in lavish luxury while giving nothing to charity, but in the same way the principle is NOT watered down or muddied for the other left-wing people.

As you correctly pointed out in the beginning of the post, hypocrites are in every political party, and i'd go so far to say that mostly all Republicans/Democrats are to some degree corrupt/hypocritical/liars to reach such a high level in politics. It's just built into the system. Ideals are crushed, souls are hollowed, and dishonest compromises are made by both sides in order to fit in.

I dont see how "liberalism" is hypocritical by definition. There have been many many left-wing people who have put their principles and ideals in practice in their own lives. Not many of them reach high-level politics, and that's mostly because they are enacting on their principles and helping the poor on a practical level.

Timothy,
You can't even imagine trying to teach the words liberalism and conservatism to High School kids, some days I just wanted to give up!

All that being said, I think the frustration is in the fact that the 'liberal' politicians claim to be the champions of the poor, when very little of them have any idea what it is to be poor, give to the poor and/or spend anytime with the poor. But to listen to them you would think they have intimate knowledge of being poor. As a conservative you get tired of being called a cold, hearted person that doesn't care about the poor at all. And that a conservative always uses the 'blame the victim' mentality to describe why someone is not working. When in fact conservatives give to the poor, promote charities and promote long standing job growth, not handouts. Conservatives do not hide the fact that we all aspire to the American Dream. Conservatives do not make Americans who do well feel guilty for succeeding. Yet liberals do. And they are doing quite well themselves along with the fact that they hob knob withy many who do very well because they need that money to stay in power. That my friend is hypocritical.
Lastly, what is wrong with promoting the poor to work, instead of relying on government handouts?
In addition, psychologist will tell you that a person wants to work and it is good for them to earn their money.

Hi Tim,

The semantic thing is an issue, and at some level I am using words to mean "what I want them to mean". Back in the 1770's it was considered liberal to escape the grasp of excessive government taxes, but not it is considered liberal to initiate them.

"As you correctly pointed out in the beginning of the post, hypocrites are in every political party, and i'd go so far to say that mostly all Republicans/Democrats are to some degree corrupt/hypocritical/liars to reach such a high level in politics."

And ultimately, at some point, we have all been disingenuous, double-minded, and phony. It is built into the System, but we have each turned individually to that System.

"Left-wing people can talk about giving to the poor and poverty and the necessity to help our fellow human beings that are in need, and then proceed to live in lavish luxury while giving nothing to charity, but in the same way the principle is NOT watered down or muddied for the other left-wing people." Tim

As soon as a person says, "The government should take of these people. I shouldn't be the one to do that," then they are already a hypocrite just for holding this belief. Every left-wing person with this view is already a hypocrite because they have blown off the importance of their own choices. Conservatives become hypocrites when they individually choose to stop living what they preach.

If you are of the opinion that the liberals who care for the poor should also care for them with their own life, then I'd say you are not a hypocrite.

... But then you'd have to admit that if everyone cared about the poor the way you did, there'd be no need for government intervention.

Timothy,

In America the term 'liberal' was born out of the Social Gospel when the church in America divided with some remaining traditional Christians and others, under the leadership of Fearless Fosdick and others put another twist on the Gospel making good works the focus, especially giving to the poor. This carried over into our politics.

I agree that liberal no longer fits. I think of JFK as being a true liberal and Obama and many other democrats as socialists or communists. With each election, the divide grows between the people while politicians just do what they need to do to get elected. I think most common people in America feel very disenfranchised at this time.
