Is President Obama Paying the Media?

The media love affair is becoming annoying. They truly are crossing lines.
I guess as I listen to the lines being crossed I just ask, "Who is paying them to throw their ethics of journalism out the window?" The reporters no longer report the news. They commentate only. It is inappropriate. They should be fired.
A commentator tonight said to Katie Couric that ALL American people are behind President Obama and he does not have to worry about their support. He just needs to convince Congress. Katie Couric said, "Is this the first time in history that has happened? Is the the first time in history that the President will really be speaking to Congress and not the American people?
Again she says, "Since, he does not need to worry about their support then the President just needs to work on Congress." Wow, way to question your commentator Katie. Way to ask your commentator how he knows ALL the American people are behind the President. Way to ask the commentator why the stock market continues to drop and investors aren't investing, aren't they considered Americans? Oh, that's right, Katie isn't about to ask hard questions about President Obama. Her job is to keep saying over and over he is making history. Everything is a first for Obama. Maybe her question should be "When will the American people be able to see Obama walk on water.?"
President Obama has an entire Media at his side just waiting to tout anything he needs to sell.
I have no idea what America our Media is reporting about but the people I speak to are scared. They are not so sure about his economic recovery. I'm not saying they are against him but they are not all gung- ho like the media portrays.
And the stock market says a lot in this country. Investors are not investing in the bailout. They are not trusting our politicians.
Therefore, I ask, has President Obama paid the media to spin a pretty picture? Claiming Americans need to hear hope . And the media went, "Whatever we can do to help you make history!!! "

Oh, and here is the tag line for the next eight years (let's face it the media will see to it that he sticks around) President Obama is making history.....

I don't know about some of you but I am ready to throw up.

They even excuse his mistakes. Obama was suppose to wait to be announced by the Speaker and he didn't. Bush would have been called stupid. They would have said he should have known protocol.
Katie said, "It is his first time and he just not familiar with all the protocol." And then she giggled. Hey, Katie, he should have been briefed by his staff on protocol. But, I know, it's Obama. MAKING HISTORY!!!

You know what else is making history, the ending of journalism. We need some muckrakers again. But, the mainstream media would have them squelched for sure.
I apologize for such a passionate post.

Lucy,

Don't appologize. There is a such a thing as righteous anger and what is happening in our country envokes that anger in many of us. Yes, many of us, you are not alone.

The people in my area of the world, are sad at what is happening to our country. We know it is being high-jacked but no one knows what to do exactly but call their representatives, again, and be ignored, again. When I read your post, I had a flash that I've had lately and I keep dismissing, that of Obama being our Hugo Chavez. The media is certainly ready to give him that kind of control.

Did you see the photo of him on the AP yesterday with the Presidential Seal behind his head looking like a halo?

One thing I've decided is to not let them make me afraid of the economy. They may ruin it with all their manipulations, but right now, it isn't as dire as they paint it. They are using this crisis to ram things down our throat that Americans normally wouldn't stand for. I think nationalizing the banks on top of the 'stimulus' and the housing give away was starting to really get people riled so they backed off for now. They're going to do it though. We all need to use this window to call, and call, and call our representatives and tell them that we want them to let the banks fail, thoughtfully in bankruptsy court. There are thousands of healthy banks in America to pick up the slack. Most of them had nothing to do with sub-prime loans. Loans that are only a problem in five states.

This is nowhere near the Great Depression, not today.

My problem is that the media has always been stupid, pandering, greedy, and inane but the conservative "underground" media only seem to be bothered by it now that the tide is turning against them. The central evidence in your post, as I understand it, is a commentator who said stupid things and an interviewer who refused to ask difficult questions and stand up to the politicians. This is not a new occurrence. Conservatives did not really notice as this was happening during the Bush years, but left-wing people such as myself sure did. I could have written a very similar post to yours as Bush invaded Iraq.

Also, you'll always have FOX news, I don't think that'll ever change. So there's a good consolation. Just as the other side has the Daily Show and Colbert report!

The main page on yahoo! has this headline: Analysis: Obama address renews audacity to hope.

Reporting history before it happens! They're saying their objective journalism has shown that the speech has value ... so you don't even have to interpret anything for yourself!

Timothy,

May I ask a question that is totally off subject? To save time, I'm assuming you'll say, yes. If your answer is no then please, ignore me.

Aren't you from Australia? I am always a bit puzzled by the people I meet online who follow our news almost like it is their own. Why is this and how do you have the time?

All I can say about FOX News is that before Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, the conservative voice was never heard and conservative ideas had no platform what-so-ever. Yet, through-out history, most Americans are mostly conservative. I can't describe to you how empowering it has been for many Americans to hear their beliefs and ideas discussed upon the common table of ideas. I would even say that if a realy conservative had been running for president, Obama would not have won.
