Liberalism's Coming War On Christianity

I am thankful and yet filled with a growing sense of concern that others are reaching similar conclusions as I am about the future of America. The issue of homosexuality is not going to go away but become one of the main fronts in the coming war against Christianity. Abortion is going to be the other front. And now with our "Progressive" youth wanting to be enlisted into Obama's civilian army we have even more to be worried about.

Nearly a Century ago J. Greshem Machen brilliantly argued that Liberalism is a false religion that stands in antithesis to Christianity. The fight over the very soul of what it means to be a Christian and how Christianity is defined continues to this day. The only difference now is that instead of the attacks coming from Liberals they prefer to be called Progressives.

In the above link to Robert Gognan's article about the coming war against Christianity, he raises some serious questions:

How can Christians, as well as other persons who share similar values, vote for a candidate who wants to persecute them for their views and to compel them, against their consciences and subject to civil penalties, to be indoctrinated and participate in the affirmation of immoral practices? In short, how can Christians vote for someone who will insure society’s regard for them as bigots?

Sadly, many Christians did vote for Barack Obama. What these Christians failed to understand is exactly what Machen tried to warn us about. That is the incompatability between Christianity and Liberalism. These are two religious world views and Liberalism will not tolerate the existence of Christianity since it poses such a great threat to it's vision. A vision that requires power to impose it upon the rest of us.

The emergence of these newly empowered Liberal Pharisees cannot tolerate their truth to be questioned or not obeyed. The recent rise and influence of President-elect Obama spells trouble for Christians who hold to the truth of God's Word, who hold to the truth of the exclusivity of the saving work of Jesus on the cross, and who hold to the truth that Jesus is the one and only Lord that ought to be served. Christians need to get ready for the persecution that is going to come.

The persecution is already here. We need to stay strong and hold to our beliefs and teach our younger generations those beliefs as well. I hear so many parents say, "I want him/her to make his/her own decision as to what they believe." So they don't teach their child anything about their religion!

We allow others to force their religion (or lack of) on us by not allowing our commandments, our symbols, and our God to be mentioned. It's not freedom FROM religion; it's freedom OF religion.

Wow, thanks for the links there. I'll have to check out this Machen fellow.

Your post reminds me of the "Christians" who supported the Bolshevik revolution (at least according to one of Dostoyevski's characters in the Brothers Karamazov).

Another thing worth noting is how "Christian" the AP insisted Barrak Obama was. The last I knew, the assurance of one's salvation was something understood between a single individual and God. The fact that the AP vouched for Obama's Christianity (or that anyone had to) should have been a major red flag for everyone.

Wow. I don't see how 'Christianity', which is supposed to centre entirely around the teachings of Jesus, is more about treating homosexuals as second-class citizens as opposed to helping the poor, loving God and your neighbour, and radical forgiveness/non-violence. Obama is a Christian anyway, how exactly are your beliefs being persecuted? I don't think it will be Obama who ensures that society regards you as a bigot for your views, more the people who are forming the opinion for themselves.

By the way Matt, how was the Brothers Karamazov? I have it on my bookshelf, and i've been meaning to read it for awhile, and have indeed had a few false starts. It's just such a long book. Was it worth it?

This is a very forthright and honest post. It is what we need in order not to become entangled by the new moral code that the left desires to foist upon all of us. In this same vein of honesty, I refuse to call them liberals or progressives any longer. What they represent and hold to is not loving and generous, it is not liberal. Neither is it anything new. It is, socialism, an old idea that has never proved itself worthy. They are socialists, those who like to consider themselves generous and loving as they take wealth from those who've earned it and give it to those who haven't. They give nothing of themselves and when they punish those with the creativity and drive necessary to produce new wealth and opportunity for all, the result is only poverty and famine for the comon folk and riches for the elite.

We need to spend a lot of time on our knees in coming days asking God for protection. I don't think it will be long before we are prohibited from speaking out in this fashion and we may already be putting ourselves at risk by doing so. Let's be mindful of the fact that we are subjects of the Kingdom and our king is, King Jesus. There is no human government able to destroy this Kingdom or remove our citizenship from it. No matter what they do against us, we will have the greater victory!

@Timothy,

I do not accept the idea that President-elect Obama is a Christian. Obama opposed clear biblical teaching on morality and the truth of the Gospel. Obama denies Jesus is the exclusive Savior of mankind, that tells me he does not understand what he believes. Plus he is more Marxist than anything.

@ Matt:

I would also read Francis A. Schaeffer if you have yet to. Machen helped to start Westminster Seminary to counter Liberal Theology. I think he and taught Schaeffer there.
