2009 Inauguration Day
January 20th is the big day for Barack Obama.
I am curious to see what his wife will be wearing on that day? The campaigning is over. Is it safe to assume that all the socialist, oh, I am sorry they refuse to be called that name, what should we call them, liberals, will be perfectly content with her expensive attire?
I am sure she will also wear expensive evening gowns for the balls? Do you think she will wear only one gown to all the the balls? What woman would do such a thing? Will the press comment on the fact that during these dire economic times that the President's wife is flaunting her money and buying outrageous clothes? I think not. I put money on it that the press will go on and on about her style and class. I do believe ABC has already referred to her Jackie O style like attire.
What I think is sad, is the fact that Americans have to pay to be on the parade route. What I think is sad, is the fact that there is way too much money spent on that evening. It would be nice if the President spoke up and said that it was a waste and encouraged less balls. I would have been impressed if maybe he suggested that this year there should be a scaling back. Go to this site to see how many balls there are that evening. There are eight official balls and numerous unofficial ones. In addition the tickets for the parade route are $1395.00 a person.
Bottom line in the United States if we can figure out a way to make money off an event we will, that is the beauty of capitalism. I just don't care for hypocrites, you can't claim that you are not for it and then take part in it so shamelessly.

Obama is a big capitalist, and I wouldn't lie about that because it's something I don't particularly like about him. In one of the more surreal moments in the campaign, a reporter asked Joe Biden something along the lines of: "doesn't your tax policy resemble the ideas of karl marx?", he laughs and then asks if she's joking; which she isn't.
Anyway about the inauguration, I doubt Obama or any of the presidents before him were able to make a choice. Sure he could huff and puff and command with all of his power that no balls take place, but with all of the things that are going wrong in the world I doubt it is on his list of priorities. In fact, i'd bet he hasn't spent one second thinking about balls and how much they cost, which I like. Is he personally profiting from them? If not, I don't really see how he's being hypocritical.
If a president elect doesn't even have enough power to say, "No, let's just do something simple" and have people listen to him, how can I have confidence that they will listen to him in more important matters?
I'm sure, as well, that he isn't thinking one iota about this. However, I am also sure that if any President (past, present, or future) would simply say, "No, really, we don't have to go all out like this" it would be scaled way back. It's all for show and really, simply having him stand on the White House steps with his hand on a Bible would be enough for me.
During the Republican administrations, the balls usually serve to let the media make jokes about the president. Otherwise the media fawns over how attractive the people in the presidential family. Basically the best president according to the media is the one that looks the most sexy and can spell potato (although this requirement can be waved).
Is Obama a capitalist? In my opinion we don't even know yet. There's an outside chance he was just serving socialist constituents. More than likely he wants to get credit for 'doing more' for the people in America -even though the Grace Commission has proved governments are capable of doing just about nothing effeciently.
