Roe vs. Wade

This post is mostly filled with questions. Do you think Roe vs. Wade could really be overturned?
I watch BOSTON LEGAL a television show that is overtly liberal. They have one character that represents conservative ideas, Denny (played by William Shatner). The show is funny and very political. Two weeks ago the show focused on Roe vs. Wade and insinuated it would be overturned. For a liberal show it took a very hard stance on abortion. It had the liberals of the show (two of the main characters Alan (James Spader) and Shirley (Candice Bergen)) really examine how they feel morally about abortion.
Several comments were made that I loved. The writers articulated my thoughts beautifully and they put them in the mouths of the liberals of the show. Alan says "It is hard to argue, even from a scientific argument, that a life doesn't start at conception. We have one-celled organisms." At another point of the show Shirley states, "As a person who has exercised the right to choose I can state it is something that a person never quite gets over and to pretend that is not a factor is just wrong." This is in the context of letting teenagers make the decision without parental consent. It is funny how we don't allow teenagers to even drink at age 18 but hey, they should be able to get abortions without telling their parents. Please, explain the reasoning!
I think my favorite line in the whole show comes from the conservative Denny, he turns to Alan and says, "I do believe you pro-choice people need Roe vs. Wade you hold onto it so tight to make you feel better."
Alan later in the show reveals he has 'participated' in two abortions. Denny and Alan are talking on the balcony as they do at the end of the show and Alan gives statistics how crime is down and it is probably because of abortion. That the would be criminals that would have been born in the 1970's to low income mothers were not born. Therefore, in the 1990's crime was lower. Denny turns to Alan with question "Does this make you feel better about those two abortions?" Alan is quite.
I have so often asked myself how we justify abortion? We call it a woman's choice? A choice to kill? It is funny to watch our society. When a woman wants the baby, we get excited about the ultra sound , the sonogram pictures. We eat special, give up smoking and drinking. We throw 'baby showers' all for a fetus, Right? According to pro-choice people it is not a baby it is a fetus and nothing until it is born, right? Or, is it a baby when you 'want' it and a fetus when you are aborting? And how as a society do we so easily allow for such distinctions?
BOSTON LEGAL did a nice job with this topic. I highly suggest viewing this episode. It makes a person think. It argues both sides. It even delves into the issue of parental consent, nicely. The show definitely leans on the conservative side on this issue, which is odd.

If we were honest, we would delve a little deeper into the psychological damage caused to a woman who has an abortion. Especially, those young girls who are alowd to make the decision without parental concent and guidance. In my opinion, abortionists take advantage of women in a perdicament and make a great deal of money off of them. It is a murderous and cruel buisiness and the more science exposes to us what unborn babies look like the more this buisiness is shown for what it is.

It is a long hard battle but someday, I think people will look back on abortion the way we do on slavery and wonder at our barbarity. That is if God allows us to remain a nation. He has never approved of baby killing and the way abortion is most commonly utilized, as birth control, we Americans are no different than those ancient people who sacrificed their first borns to Molech. The god that we sacrifice our unborn to is the god of sexual depravity. We kill the innocent to rid ourselves of the consequences of our sin. However, it is my experience that consequences can't be gotten rid of even though they may be put off for a time, they will reimmerge in another form. I think the devaluing of human life through abortion leads to violent crime and further sexual expolitation of the innoncent and in children used in the sex trade.

Boston Legal is not my favorite show, but it is a good example of pro-choice double-mindedness. Another example: something like 54% of Americans believe abortion is murder, but like 60% or so think Roe versus Wade should not be overturned. That means at least 6% or so of people think murder should (in some form) be legal. The actual stats are in 110 People Who Are Screwing Up America, which I strongly recommend.

Also, the murder/abortion thing is highly circumstantial. You can show a link, but you can't show which one caused the other. It could be that as crime has gone down, women have decided to have more abortions. Also, the ration of crimes prevented per abortion is something like 1 / 10,0000. Which means killing one baby will stop one crime in ten thousand crimes. The actual numbers are in Freakonomics.

The whole crime argument makes me cringe. If people of an ethnic minority start having less babies and the crime rate goes down, does that justify Eugenics? (Bill Bennet first asked this question, which got a lot of people upset).

Thanks for bringing up some of these issues, Lucy.

Also, another interesting statistic, single men are more likely than women or married men to believe abortion should be kept legal. Like Lady L says, it's sexually self-imposed deception.
