Redistribution Quotes

Obama has openly said the Supreme Court needs to get involved in redistributing the wealth (and that the US Constitution stands in the way of doing this).
Our greatest leaders have been against this for some time. As my grandma says, the nation is in trouble when it discovers it can vote itself more money.
Here are the quotes:
"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they COULD and SHOULD do for themselves."
-Abraham Lincoln
"I think the best way of doing good to the poor is not making them easy in poverty, but leading them or driving them out of it"
-Benjamin Franklin
"To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his fathers have acquired too much, in order to spare to others who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equaled industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, 'to guarantee to everyone of a free exercise of his industry, and the fruits acquired by it.'"
-Thomas Jefferson
"The utopian schemes of leveling [redistribution of wealth], and a community of goods, are as visionary and impracticable as thouse which vest all property in the Crown. [These ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitutional."
-Samuel Adams

Obama appeals to the people who pay very little taxes already, college students and the poor. It is interesting how liberal our colleges have become and it seems that capitalism is dying. The question I pose to them is if you made 300k a year would you want to give more to people who chose not to work and/or just make less for whatever reason? I usually get a blank stare. People don't like to part with their money but they like to take! I know this sounds mean but my son is in college, all caught up in the Obama nonsense. I told him next time he calls home for money my answer will be "Obama took it!"
Great post. I wish socialism in America began and ended with Obama but sadly, it seems, many Republicans are hoping on the big government bandwagon also. President Bush has already gone a long way toward redistribution to the tune of 750 billion. It seems to me that the right and left are working together to bring us under democratic socialism of the same type as in Europe and Canada. No democrat could have better prepared the way for Obama to take us into socialism than what President Bush and those Republicans who voted for the 'bail-out' that is in truth a government 'buy-in'. When government gets in the door and makes itself comfortable on your couch, it will never go home.
If we are to defeat the establishment of Social Democracy in America then capitalists from both sides of the aisle need to start speaking out against it. We need to call it what it is, (it is not liberalism, it is socialism)speak loudly, and begin shouting right now!
We also need to pray for God's mercy upon us. If Obama gets into office, I think socialism may be the least of the damage he will do to our country. The media has fallen down on the job and America is on the verge of putting a complete stranger in the White House. We need to encourage everyone voting for him to spend sometime researching his background. All we can go by is the life of this man because he has no record to speak of in public office. When one does look into his background, it does not take long to see that everything about this man is shadowy and questionable. The media has allowed him to project the man he wants us to see without even producing the proof of his education, his health, or citizenship. He continually lies about the people in his past that have enabled him to rise so quickly to the top and he gets away with it.
These are troublesome days for America.
Good point, Lucy.
I find it funny that Obama accused John McCain of making a virtue of selfishness. Are the people who are demanding free money selfish?
Also, I heard last week that if all property was confiscated from the top 40% of earners, it would pay the federal government's expenses for 1 year. So it's not like there's a lot there anyway.
Hi Lady L,
Good points. Obama has been kept veiled by the media. Hillary tried to take the veil off and there was brawling in the streets (so to speak). It's just like the veil the press keeps over the socialism of the democrats.
matt,
I guess we shouldn't be surprised as it seems that state propaganda and socialism go hand and hand. I wonder how far they will have to go in nationalizing our economy before they start calling this a socialist nation. We have lost so much freedom since the Constitution was written but we still call ourselves the land of the free. I guess people who are raised in bondage and told it is otherwise seldom know what they are missing. I think we have many under educated citizens right now and what they don't know is going to hurt us all. I don't think most young people (and a good number of older ones) know the difference between captialism and socialism.
LL
p.s. I just read my last post and I see that I am a victim of the rotten public schools too...I know what capitalism is I just can't spell it!;-}
If we are not free to fail in spelling we are not free to suceed!
